- GRE Analytical Writing
1. Had the researchers controlled for confounding variables, the results ______ more reliable. (A) will be (B) would be (C) would have been (D) should be
2. Not until the data were published ______ the extent of the environmental damage. (A) the public realized (B) did the public realize (C) the public did realize (D) realized the public

解答
- (C) would have been — 與過去事實相反的假設語氣倒裝(Had + S + V-pp = If + had + V-pp,主句用 would have + V-pp)。
- (B) did the public realize — Not until
- (B) submit — demand + that + (should) + 原形(假設語氣)。
(Reading Comprehension)
(Analytical Writing)
例句: “The discovery that the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate, a finding that challenged decades of assumptions about cosmic evolution, has forced physicists to reconsider fundamental theories.”
The discovery has forced physicists to reconsider fundamental theories. | S: discovery / V: has forced |
| 同位語子句 | that the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate | 補充說明 discovery |
| 同位語 | a finding that challenged decades of assumptions | 補充說明前面整個發現 |
| 形容詞子句 | that challenged decades of assumptions | 修飾 finding |

S = proponents, V = maintain
主子句:proponents maintain that…(後面 that 子句是 maintain 的受詞)。
第 2 題:has transformed
Rarely + has + S + V-pp。 S = a single technological innovation。 後面 as has the advent of the Internet 也是倒裝(比較)。
(B) Appositive restating preceding idea
“a claim…”
S = the findings, V = were accepted
Only after… “conducted by…”
第 5 題:The subject and be 動詞 of the main clause
So entrenched + was + the belief…(So + adj + be + S + that…)。

(1) show → shows(主詞是 the set,單數) (2) comma splice(兩個獨立子句不能只用逗號)→ 用分號或加 and。 The set of experiments that were conducted last year shows inconsistent results**; this is concerning.**
(a) Had it not been for your support, I would have given up. (b) Whatever happens, I will support you.(或 No matter what happens, …) (c) Not only is she intelligent, but she is also creative.
- Despite of → Despite
- comma splice:They worked tirelessly**, and** the project was successful.(加連接詞或分號)
- were → was(Each → 單數)
Having completed the project, the team achieved success.(success 不會 complete)
(a) Had I known, I would have told you. (b) Never has she seen such a beautiful place. (c) Not until it was too late did he realize his mistake.
(D) All correct
Despite of his lack of experience, the candidate impressed the interviewers. Having reviewed his portfolio, his creativity was evident. Not only he demonstrated technical skills, but he also showed leadership. The committee insisted that he begins immediately. Were it not for his salary expectations, he would have been hired right away.
✅ 修正版: “Despite his lack of experience, the candidate impressed the interviewers. Having reviewed his portfolio, the panel found his creativity evident. Not only did he demonstrate technical skills, but he also showed leadership. The committee insisted that he begin immediately. Were it not for his salary expectations, he would have been hired right away.”
- Despite of → Despite(despite 不加 of)
- his creativity was evident → the panel found his creativity evident(垂懸分詞——portfolio 不會 review,要有「the panel」當主詞)
- Not only he demonstrated → Not only did he demonstrate(Not only 倒裝)
- begins → begin(insist + that + 原形)

(Metacognition)
